Traditions in the Ukraine
New Art Trading Card for a swap on one of my yahoo groups.
We were to chose a "Christmas around the world tradition" and create a card ..I chose the Ukraine and Love the meaning of the Holy Supper. Read on for a little history lesson!
"Sviata Vechera OR "Holy Supper" is the central tradition of the beautiful Christmas Eve celebrations in Ukrainian homes. The dinner table sometimes has a few wisps of hay on the embroidered table cloth as a reminder of the manger in Bethlehem.
When the children see the first Star in the eastern evening sky, which symbolizes the trek of the Three Wise Men, the Sviata Vechera may begin. In farming communities the head of the household now brings in a sheaf of wheat called the didukh which represents the importance of the ancient and rich wheat crops of Ukraine, the staff of life through the centuries. Didukh means literally "grandfather spirit" so it symbolizes the family's ancestors. In city homes a few stalks of golden wheat in a vase are often used to decorate the table. A prayer is said and the father says the traditional Christmas greeting, "Khristos rodyvsya!" which translated is Christ is born!, which is answered by the family with "Slavite Yoho!" which translated is Let Us Glorify Him!.AMEN!!!!

I stamped the image with staz-on and colored it in with alcohol inks, attached a stone, and dangling charms, and coated it with glaze, it was stamped on a pearl disc.

Away from it all
It is so nice to have time to actually sit and compose a thought while still in my jammies and no work to do! That must mean I am away from it all.... and I am...in the Mtns for a long weekend and a wedding! It has been a full fall so far but I plan on taking creative time to post some new work this week..like the charm challenge I am doing for one of my yahoo groups. So watch for creativity any day now.... Cathee (recluse for a day)

Tulip monoprint paper quilt
This was done using the same technique as the bird quilt..I like this the best!!Any opinions out there??
monoprint quilt squares
This is for a swap on Art Techniques yahoo Group but since it was such a learning experience for me,I decided to post the instructions. The idea comes from the may/june issue of cloth, paper, scissors in an article by Kelli Perkins. Kudos to Kelli!
Your monoprint paper quilt is ready to be added to muslin and finshed with machine stiching! Final image coming soon! This was enough for one days work!!
Step one:Brayer printers ink on to a piece of heavy plastic.( If you do not have printers ink, stazon will work)
Step two: Lay a piece of regular computer paper down and using light pressure pencil in your drawing.Flip the sheet over and you have your monoprint(one of a kind!) the images get lighter the more you do. Step three: Begin to add paper pieces to your monoprint, I chose to do more of an applique look, cutting my pieces rather than using torn pieces.
Step four and five: Add Paper pieces to the background and finish with paint, stamps etc...

Purple ATC for yahoo SWAP
This is the hardest challenge I have had in a while, since purple and I do not see eye to eye, however I caught the expression of what I feel purple is.......... a hazy passion. I am exhausted from my purple adventure and am in a purple haze. (it is easier for me to use purple in a sentance than to create with it!).

Tonight I actually created my little wood nymph..or as I like to call her monday's muse. She was in my head as I sat out in my backyard admiring the beauty God had given me this evening and she had to be created. Alas three hours later that is all I have gotten done tonight. But how creative is doing the laundry after all~! Praise God for the muse He sends! She is created on a 4 x2.5 hard board

Today at my Alzheimer's group I posed the question "what is your best memory of your father", one answer was that "he loved his children and that was all". That is the picture I have of my Heavenly Father, no matter what I have done He has loved me today. It is enough. Today I will relax in the arms of my "Father" God and remember as His child I am accepted.

Today it is raining and creating a temporary fog on creativity in our house, even sophie is exhausted from hunting her muse. Perhaps tomorrow we shall find it.Also posted a pic of some dominos that were created in the fall for a show..they were made using staz on pad and alcohol inks. The alcohol inks were applied with a very small brush a bit at a time.
